So, this weekend was a little crazy. My brother had his 6th Annual Seafood Fest. This is a fraction of what was left over. We made lobster bisque, lobster salad, picked lobster and crab for freezing and on and on. We hate to say it but if we don't see lobster again for a long, long time, we will be okay.

On a lighter note, this is how the new week started out.

Fresh, local heirlooms, organic avos, roasted reds, organic baby greens, mesquite turkey and highly delicious flaxy, sprouted, many grain bread.

I lost my Grandpa on Monday.
He went pretty unexpectedly.
I just assumed I'd see him out in the yard on one of his many tag-sale-find tractors this Spring but sadly, those days are gone. My grandparents have always been a key part of my life. They'd managed to fill in a place in me that might otherwise have been left empty.
I will forever be grateful to them for the years we spent together.
RIP Gramp.
You'll be missed.

Just Like Old Times

In our old Cape Cod neighborhood...doing all of the things we used to do.

The cottage we used to rent (30 years ago) appears a bit fancier than we'd remembered it...and looks like it now has central air. But the local, beach-general store is still a walk away...and the windmill is still standing proud. The old battleship (very famous in our family lore) is gone but the sandbars remain and the sunsets are still exceptional.

We are in a giant, shingled house a couple of beaches away. We've expanded and married several exceptional new people into our family...and added a few of the most, charming, hilarious, earthy children you could ever dream of.

Since we've arrived, there are deeper cuts of the 70's on continuous play through Sirius Radio...and we're all singing along, never missing a single word to a single song, with our beach-loving mama.

It's as if she just packed us all up in her vintage SAAB, started it up with the screwdriver, popped in a Cat Stevens 8-track tape and made our way to the Cape.

Well, mostly. Have been working so hard at FROCK this past month or so that by the time Sunday Market rolled around yesterday, it was all I could do to hold myself upright. So, today, I took a day. Just got back from hours and hours of shopping with me mum. New silk screens, inks, fabrics, pocket calendars, organizing notebooks, etc. were purchased -- Sounds businessy, I know and well, it is but nonetheless, shopping is shopping. And I really like shopping.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I think I can breathe again.

Memorial Day Weekend is here, again. Can hardly believe how fast the year has gone? We are so excited to have a shiny new deck at the lake - so, we had an impromptu fish-fry/steamer mini fest the other night. It was the best way to kick off the weekend and test drive the deck made by my husband (and my bros) -- after much red tape.

But I am happy to announce, though, that the first two weeks of FROCK have completely exceeded our wildest expectations! It seems as though folks are digging it. Working on a system so as to not overwork to the point of extreme exhaustion. It needs work (haha, more work) but I am getting there.

It's something I used to spend a lot of time on. Pre-internet. In books. In person.

I try to keep the Whosie blog a happy place but, well, it's been a tough week. We lost a couple of really special ones in the past few days - my uncle (the Magic Man) and my dear, sweet father-in-law (the Dad of all Dads). We will miss them both. We do already.

And we lost a friend and fellow yoga teacher from the XO Studio a few weeks ago, tragically. At her Memorial Service, someone read this incredible poem by Mary Oliver.

So, as we await the birth of a dear friend's baby and the arrival of Spring and new beginnings...we acknowledge how fragile and beautiful it all is. And we will love each other in every way possible.
